butterfly park and a meal to remember...

Yesterday we arrived on the island around noon, checked into the hotel and rode the free island shuttle to the Butterfly Park and Insect Kingdom.
It’s made up of four areas, the Butterfly Aviary, the Insect Kingdom, the Bird/Animal Aviary and the Pupa House. The first part of both Aviary’s was quite interesting, it was set up like a museum with detailed information on the various species of both insects and butterflies. The “live” section of the Butterfly Aviary was a little disappointing as not a lot of butterflies were fluttering about.
Apparently, the park has over 15,000 butterflies. I think most of those were the dead ones in the display cases or maybe they were just being shy and hiding on us.
The Bird/Animal Aviary was neat, for a little bit of extra change we were able to feed the Lories! Piotr had five on him at once, sitting patiently on his outstretched arms waiting to get their grub.
After the Butterfly Park we stopped to eat dinner at a place our shuttle bus driver mentioned called Mega Tian Siang Hot Pot. For those of you that have never experienced a hot pot, its best described as a gigantic bowl of soup fondue! It’s actually a favourite in China but since Singapore is such a mix of cultures they also have adopted it as their own. You have a giant pot on your table filled with soup stock that simmers the whole time.
Then you are given different raw items to place in the simmering pot. Everything from bok choy to spinach to squid to Udon noodles!
Man it was delicious, we stuffed our bellies! A little too much maybe because we didn’t feel like doing much after dinner, just headed back to the hotel to watch some TV.
